If you’ve never made a smoothie with beets before you might be wondering if you can put raw beets in a smoothie, or even how you would use beets in a smoothie.
The truth is that before this smoothie, I’d never tried adding beets to a smoothie myself. But when peeled and chopped, raw beets make a delicious addition to a fresh and vibrant smoothie.
This beet smoothie is made with:
- Raw beets – Beets are absolutely brimming with essential minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.
- Banana – Full of potassium and other beneficial nutrients, bananas also lightly sweeten this smoothie and sort of bind the other ingredients together.
- Orange – Oranges are highly valued for their Vitamin C content and wide array of antioxidants. You could also substitute another type of citrus for the oranges in this smoothie like tangerines, clementines, or mandarins.
- Frozen berries – Any mix of frozen berries will work perfectly for this smoothie recipe. My personal favorite is raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries.
- Water or coconut water – Either plain water or coconut water are both excellent options for this smoothie. Coconut water will add a little additional sweetness.
- Ice – Ice is optional, however you may add a few ice cubes as desired to make the smoothie a little colder.
How to make a beet and berry smoothie
This beet and berry smoothie is super easy to make. All you need is the vibrant ingredients and a high speed blender.
Whole pieces of beet are no problem for a high powered vitamix, but if you don’t have a high speed blender you may want to chop the beets up small or grate them before adding to the blender.

LET’S GET GLOWING! ✨
What fruit goes well with beets?
Beets do have a slightly sweet flavor, but also fairly earthy and strong. Berries, bananas, and citrus are the perfectly bright and sweet accompaniment to their nuanced flavor.
Is it better to juice or blend beets?
Both blended and juiced beets have extraordinary health benefits, however by blending the beets into the smoothie there is an added bonus of gut healthy fiber.
Beet smoothie healthy benefits
Beets, along with the other ingredients in this smoothie, are quite high in fiber, so this beet smoothie will keep you full and satisfied.
We all know that bright colors in fruits and veggies = lots of nutrients, and this beet and berry smoothie is no exception.
The ingredients are packed with anti-oxidants, vitamin C, potassium, folate, and fiber – which are all great in supporting our system during the cold and flu burdened winter months.
