Just the PERFECT way to cool down on a hot day.
It’s also versatile and can be made without banana and with different types of non dairy milk (or even coconut water) depending on what you and your fam prefers.

Ingredients and substitutions
The only thing standing between you and this smoothie is just a handful of simple ingredients!
It’s made without dairy, yogurt, and fruit juice – just whole fruit and some dairy free milk!
Here’s what you need
- Mango – I prefer to use frozen mango because it helps create a thick, perfectly chilled smoothie every time, but fresh mango also works! Just add a small handful of ice cubes, or use frozen banana instead of fresh to chill the smoothie a bit.
- Banana – One medium sized banana is the perfect compliment to the sweet tart mango – no need to freeze it (unless perhaps if you’re using fresh mango). If you want to make a mango smoothie without banana, you can substitute it with about 3/4 cup cauliflower rice or cauliflower florets. You’ll may also want to add some honey, maple syrup, or low calorie sweetener like monk fruit drops as well since the banana adds a fair amount of natural sweetness to the smoothie.
- Lime – Juice of half a lime brightens up all the other flavors. Feel free to substitute with lemon juice instead!
- Dairy free milk – Really any type of dairy free milk works well! You can use almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, or even coconut milk for an extra hit of tropical flavor. Coconut water is also a delicious option.
- Sea salt – Just a pinch of sea salt helps marry together all the flavors of the smoothie. Sounds weird I know, but give it a shot and you’ll see what I mean!
How to make a mango smoothie
This mango smoothie could not be easier to make – all you need is the 5 ingredients listed above, a blender, and less than five minutes!
Here’s the step-by-step
- Add all ingredients to your blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy, adding a little more frozen mango for a thicker smoothie, or a little more dairy free milk for a thinner smoothie – as desired.
- Divide between 2 glasses and serve!
How to make an extra thick mango smoothie
As written, this mango smoothie recipe is fairly thick, but still blends easily and is drinkable with a straw.
If you want to make an EXTRA thick smoothie (like grab-the-spoon thick) there’s a few simple swaps you can make to achieve that texture.
- Use frozen mango AND frozen banana.
- Add a little extra frozen mango – start with an additional 1/2 cup and go from there.
- Use a little bit less milk – try reducing the milk to 1 cup and use your tamper to get everything moving!
- Add a small handful of ice cubes – you don’t want to add too many ice cubes or it will dilute the flavor of the smoothie, but just a small handful will be enough to make it extra cold // thick.
These tips also work great if you want to turn this smoothie into a smoothie bowl!
