How to make this jalapeño peach guacamole
This summery avocado dip is so easy to put together.
All you need is 2 bowls, a spoon, a cutting board, and a knife!
For smashing the avocado, my favorite tool is a pastry cutter – it works SO WELL, and minimizes the amount of guacamole that ends up on your fingers while you’re smashing away 😂 If you don’t have one, a large fork will work as well.
Here’s the step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Start by making the guacamole base
Place avocados in a large bowl along with all other ingredients EXCEPT the diced peaches. Mash everything together either with the back of a large fork or a pastry cutter (my favorite guacamole making tool!) until well combined. Taste and add a little more salt or lime juice if desired.
Step 2: Add the diced peaches to the guacamole
When guacamole is properly seasoned, stir in the diced peaches. If you’re making the peach salsa, move the guacamole to the refrigerator to chill slightly while you prep the salsa, otherwise serve right away or stash in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Step 3: Make the peach salsa
To make peach salsa: In a medium sized bowl add 2nd diced peach, chopped jalapeno, diced red onion, chopped cilantro, juice of half a lime, and a big pinch of sea salt. Stir together until well combined. Taste and add a little more lime juice or salt if desired and serve over top guacamole or store in the refrigerator for up to several hours until ready to serve!
How to get the BEST tasting guacamole
Here’s a few tips for how to get the best tasting guacamole:
- Use perfectly ripe avocados. Not too firm, and not too soft. I know finding perfectly ripe avocados can be a challenge of it’s own, but if you can manage it, your guacamole eating self will thank you 🙂
- Lots of citrus! Lime juice really brings guacamole to life. You can add as much or as little as you like, but if you give your guac a taste and feel like it’s missing *something* that you can’t put your finger on, chances are some more lime juice will do the trick. Don’t have enough lime juice? A little lemon juice, or fresh squeezed orange juice will also work in adding some more brightness and flavor.
- Fresh herbs! Fresh cilantro is king for the most delicious guacamole. If you are on team NO CILANTRO try substituting some parsley or finely chopped green onion instead!
- Plenty of salt. Salt, like lime juice (or citrus juice) is another key ingredient that will bring your guacamole to LIFE. You can taste as you go, but like lime juice, adding more salt might be the answer to take it to the next level.
- Keep some texture! This may not be how you like your guacamole, but I like a mixture of smooth avocado and a bit of chunkiness. To keep some of the texture of the avocado don’t over mix it. Keeping some of the pieces of diced avocado intact will add interesting texture to the final dip!
- Keep it from turning brown. There’s a few tips in the next section on how I like to keep guacamole nice and green. These tips are especially key if you’re not planning on serving it right away! Oxidation and guacamole are not a good mix. Keeping your guacamole from turning brown will help maintain delicious FRESH flavor, and keep it looking appetizing, too.
FAQ’s and a few notes on this jalapeño peach guacamole
- If you’re short on time, ingredients, or patience (lol), you can totally make this peach guacamole without the peach salsa. You’ll still get tons of yummy peachy flavor from the diced peaches that are stirred into the guac!
- Nectarines or mango can be substituted for the peaches.
- To keep the guacamole from turning brown, “seal” the guacamole with a layer of plastic wrap. Making sure to chase out as many air bubbles as you can to prevent little brown spots from forming!
- Alternatively, you can cover the guacamole with a thin layer of water and a lid. Before serving just pour the water off and stir it together again!
