This dreamy cacao rose latte is a naturally sweetened homemade drink that is both paleo and vegan! Made with espresso or cold brew coffee, plant based milk, magnesium rich cacao powder, maple syrup, and just a hint of rose water.
Here we are again with another tasty homemade Nyssa’s Kitchen drink recipe!
Often when I talk to people about my recipes, or I listen to other people describe my blog, it always comes back to yummy drinks!
I really do love making fancy drinks at home. Everything from fancy lattes and coffees like this one, to nutrient rich smoothies and juices. It also happens to be the thing I splurge the most on at the grocery store and coffee shops.
Let’s just call it market research.
If I ever open a face-to-face brick and mortar food service shop, tasty AF drinks would be highly prioritized!
But for now, I’ll just stick to making them in my own little kitchen and sharing the recipes here with you.
I’ve been playing around with rosewater in my kitchen over the last year and have sort of fallen in love with it.
The first recipe I shared on Nyssa’s Kitchen using rosewater was this honey rose kombucha margarita (also such a dreamy recipe!), and now we’re on to this cacao rose latte.
The flavor of rosewater can be overpowering if you’re too heavy handed, which is why I think some people are opposed to the flavor. But when you find just the right balance it adds such a lovely floral note so subtle that you might not even be able to put your finger on it if you didn’t know what you were drinking.
This dreamy cacao rose latte took a few tries to get just right, but I feel like the recipe is 100% ready for the next time you want something a little bit *extra* in your morning cup ☕️✨
How to make this dreamy cacao rose latte
This dreamy cacao rose latte is made in two parts.
- The coffee / cacao / rosewater base
- Your favorite plant based nut milk to top it off
You can whip up the coffee base in your vitamix, with a handheld whisker, or simply shake it together in a jar. Stirring it together with a spoon probably will not work because the cacao powder needs some sort of force to blend into the coffee. If all else fails a bowl, a whisk, and some muscle power will probably also do the trick!
What are the ingredients in the latte?
The coffee base is made with:
- Cold brew or espresso
- Cacao powder
- Rosewater
- Vanilla extract
- Maple syrup
- Sea salt
The base is then blended with your favorite plant based milk which keeps the drink paleo friendly and vegan.
If you want to take it to the next level, you can add in some nourishing add in’s.
Optional add in’s:
- MCT oil
- Maca powder
- Ashwagndha powder
- Four sigmatic medicinal mushrooms
Once you have your chocolatey coffee base ready pour it over ice and top with a healthy pour of your milk of choice.
Is this dreamy cacao rose latte healthy?
Unlike most fancy coffee drinks that you find at a typical coffee shop, this one is only sweetened with natural sweeteners, which instantly makes it a healthier choice.
It’s also made with REAL cacao powder, which is rich in essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and anti-oxidants, too! Cacao has also been shown to boost your mood and lower stress.
Most natural food stores carry real cacao powder in the baking section, and the Trader Joe’s in the Seattle area stocks a really affordable cacao powder. If you can’t find it in stores, you can buy my favorite brand online here.
Yayyy for less stress and real chocolate!
A few notes on the recipe
- For the best texture, use your high speed blender or handheld whisker (like this one) to whip together the coffee / cacao / rosewater base. If you don’t have either of those options available vigorously shake it together in a tightly lidded jar, or mix together with a whisk and a bowl.
- A good ratio is about 1/2 coffee base and 1/2 plant milk. Any less milk than that and the flavor might be too strong.
- This recipe is slightly sweetened with maple syrup, but feel free to adjust the level of sweetness or leave it out all together.
- Many natural food stores or mediterranean grocery store carry culinary rosewater. If you can’t find it in stores, you can buy my favorite brand here for about $7. One bottle will last you years so it’s a worthy investment!

Thanks for sharing! Does one milk work better than another?
Nyssa Tanner says
I honestly think just about any milk you normally enjoy for your homemade lattes would be delicious! I’m partial to cashew milk or oat milk myself, but I’d say to use whatever your typical favorite is 🙂 Hope you enjoy if you give it a try!- Nyssa
