Heat sesame oil over medium heat in a large soup pot. Add red onion and cook until starting to soften – about 5 minutes.

Once onions soften add grated garlic, ginger, red curry paste, turmeric and curry powder. Cook, continuously stirring for about 1 minute, until spices are fragrant.
