A Grain Free Review: Frankie & Jo’s Ice Cream Shop

I’m back with another grain free, allergen friendly, and paleo-aware restaurant review for you guys!

This one is gonna be tasty.

Super excited to share some details on my favorite plant based Seattle scoop shop, Frankie and Jo’s.

Frankie and Jo's - the newest, hottest (or coolest?) ice cream shop in Seattle, and for damn good reason. The hype IS all it’s made out to be, friends. Frankie and Jo's makes ice cream shops seem like the best new thing all over again AND reminds us of why we fell in love with them in the first place. Besides being a company that you wholeheartedly want to stand behind, they have also totally nailed that illusive perfect plant based scoop.

Also known as your new favorite ice cream obsession. Not even kidding.

Unlike a lot of scoop shops that primarily serve regular ice cream, with a plant based flavor or two on the side, plant based ice cream is the only thing they do, and they do it SO well.

They use all plant and vegetable based ingredients for their ice cream, organic ingredients whenever possible, and everything is gluten free. EVEN THEIR WAFFLE CONES. That’s right, even their waffle cones.

That’s a game changer, friends. Amirite?

A Grain Free Review: Niche – a gluten free cafe & bakery

Hey guys! I’ve decided to give something new a try here on the blog. Amongst the grain free recipes that I share, I’m going to start sprinkling in some Seattle restaurant reviews of places that are grain free, allergen friendly, and paleo-aware. Can that be a verb? I think so. Gonna roll with it 🙂

I can’t promise that it will be the best, most articulate restaurant review that you’ve ever read, because really I have zero experience with this sort of thing. But I can promise you that I’ll give you my honest opinion, and that if you have any questions about my experience or what I know about a place, that I’ll answer the best I can.

*All of the opinions and photography of this restaurant are my own, and I have not received any compensation in exchange for this review.*

The first spot that I’m going to cover is a little cafe in the Capital Hill neighborhood of Seattle called, Niche – A Gluten Free Cafe and Bakery. It was started about 2 years ago by a 20 year trained pastry chef, Toby Matasar, who found health through a gluten free / paleo diet, and left the traditional pastry kitchen to start her own quaint and sunny, 100% gluten free cafe.

Get ready to be tempted by some seriously mouth-watering treats as you browse their main menu since the ordering counter is lined with whatever sweet treats are fresh baked for the day - you may even be able to watch them frosting some cupcakes or pulling cookies out of the oven, as their workspace is directly behind it. Their non-bakery items menu consist mostly of various types of sandwiches, bowls, salads, and WAFFLES and waffle-inis! Niche - a gluten free bakery and cafe in Seattle, WA! I went in one afternoon with a girlfriend to catch a midweek lunch and was not disappointed. The atmosphere is very relaxed and quaint – large windows line the front of the cafe, and it’s just the right size for right around 10 tables. We were able to walk right in and sit down. The menus line the wall near the entrance and you order at the counter.
